A room for the length of one workshop: a six-character code people type,
a QR code they scan, and a drop zone everyone in the room can read from
and write to. Files are capped per file and per room, downloads are
counted, and the whole room deletes itself when its timer — 15 minutes to
24 hours — runs out. No account, no sign-in, no email list: whoever holds
the code is in the room, and the first file anyone drops appears for all
of them within a few seconds.
what it does
- code + QR
- Six characters from an alphabet without 0/O and 1/I/L, so a code read off a projector is never ambiguous. The same room is a QR code — drawn on the page as SVG and downloadable as a 1024 px PNG for a slide.
- one session, then gone
- A room is opened for 15 minutes up to 24 hours and deletes itself at the end, files and index together. Nothing is archived, and a room nobody looks at again is swept by the server.
- everyone reads and writes
- Holding the code is the only credential: any participant can drop a file in and any other can take it out. The list refreshes itself every few seconds while the tab is visible.
- the uploader can take it back
- Each upload returns a delete token to the browser that sent it, so a file shared by mistake can be removed by its uploader — or by the host, who also holds the one way to close the room early.
- downloads, not pages
- Files are always served as attachments with the uploaded content type discarded, so an uploaded HTML or SVG file can never execute on kmail.at's own origin.
